A urologist is a physician who has specialized knowledge and skill regarding problems of the male and female urinary tract and the male reproductive organs. Urology is classified as a surgical subspecialty. Urologists are trained to provide both medical and surgical treatment.

John T. Wilbanks, M.D.

Dr.Wilbanks earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Alabama before attending the University Alabama School of Medicine. After graduation from medical school in 1994 he served as a resident in general surgery for two years at the UAB Hospital. He then completed four years of urological training there.
In addition to being a partner of Birmingham-Shelby Urology, Dr. Wilbanks is a member of the American Urological Association, the Southeast Section of the American Urological Association, the Medical Association of the State of Alabama, the Shelby County Medical Society, and the Birmingham Urology Club. Currently, Dr. Wilbanks is a member of the medical staff at Shelby Baptist Medical Center, St. Vincent's East, and St Vincent's Birmingham. He is a native of Tallassee, AL.
Jason K. Burrus, M.D.

Dr. Burrus earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham before attending the University of South Alabama School of Medicine. After graduation from medical school in 1999 he served as a resident in general surgery for two years at the UAB Hospital. He then completed four years of urological training there. During his residency he underwent extensive training in laparoscopic surgery. He has special interest in laparoscopic and robotic surgery.
In addition to being a partner of Birmingham-Shelby Urology, Dr. Burrus is a member of the American Medical Association, the American Urological Association, the Southeast Section of the American Urological Association, the Medical Association of the State of Alabama, the Shelby County Medical Society, and the Birmingham Urology Club. He is a member of Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society.
Currently, Dr. Burrus is a member of the medical staff at Shelby Baptist Medical Center, St. Vincent's East, and St Vincent's Birmingham. He is a native of Jasper, AL.
